JAEL-in-Brief Episode 2 - Brian Fields interviews Mary Cromer

Mary Cromer is the Deputy Director of Appalachian Citizens' Law Center, a nonprofit law firm in Whitesburg, Kentucky that advocates on environmental justice issues in Central Appalachia. Mary represents individuals in Southwest Virginia and Eastern Kentucky on a variety of environmental justice issues related to the legacy costs of coal mining, including land owners’ rights issues, toxic waste disposal, and safe drinking water. Mary has served as Southwest Virginia’s representative on the Virginia Governor’s Advisory Council on Environmental Justice since its inception in 2017. She earned her JD magna cum laude from Washington & Lee University School of Law. Mary and her family live on a farm in Wise County, VA, that has been in her family since the 1840s.

Brian Fields is a 2L at University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law and a first-year member of the Journal of Animal and Environmental Law. After graduation he is hoping to pursue a career in environmental law with a focus on environmental justice, water resources law, and sustainable energy policy.
